Yes, you read that right—this healthy breakfast is not prepared on the stovetop, making it an easy, fuss-free treat for anyone without access to traditional heat.

These suji-based snack recipes are very common in India and are similar to Rava Idli or Rava Dhokla, but with a unique shape and flavor. There is another way of using suji to make an easy and healthy snack recipe because suji balls which are not only easy and quick to make but very tempting too.

I always like to add my personal touch to every dish using different masalas, so tried different South Indian and North Indian Snack recipes. Make sure to make every dish look appealing by garnishing it properly. I will try different rava recipes in the future but my recent go-to dish is the suji balls. I think many people are bored with the same rava idli or upma recipe, so this recipe can certainly be a new change and new way of using suji snacks recipes. One of the best things about this recipe is that it can be made in no time and also does not require any fancy ingredients that are not easily available. Just simply steam the balls and then temper them with the required spices.

Moreover, I will share some easy and important tips and tricks while preparing suji balls at home. Firstly, in this post, I have shared and shaped it into a round ball but it can be shaped to any desired shape you want. For an easy and quick option, you can shape them into circular or even cylindrical discs. Secondly, don’t forget to garnish it with fresh coriander or mint leaves to make it look appealing. Thirdly, the recipe does not require any side dish, so to complete the recipe serve it with spicy green chutney, tomato ketchup, or any side dish of your choice. Lastly, these balls can be easily stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 day. You may have to microwave it for 30-60 seconds or re-steam them to refresh before serving.

How To Make Suji Balls With Step By Step Photo

  1. Firstly, in a large pan heat 2 tbsp oil.

2. Now add ¼ tsp asafoetida, 1 chopped green chilli, ½ tsp grated ginger and some fresh coriander.

3. Pour 1½ cups of water.

4. Keeping the flame on low start adding 1 cup suji slowly and keep stirring continuously with the other hand. This helps to make it lumps free.

5. Mix continuously till the suji absorbs water and let it boil.

6. Also, add ½ tsp salt and ½ tsp oregano and mix well.

7. Cook until there is no water and the suji turns soft and fluffy.

8. Transfer the cooked suji to a large plate and let it cool slightly.

9. Knead well to form a dough without adding any extra water.

10. Now prepare small-sized balls without any cracks.

11. Place the suji balls to steam. Grease the base to prevent them from sticking.

12. Steam for 15 minutes until the balls are well cooked and keep aside.

13. Further in the same pan heat 1 tbsp oil.

14. Now, add ½ tsp mustard, ½ tsp jeera, ½ tsp grated ginger and mix.

15. Further, add 3 tsp desiccated coconut, some fresh coriander and 1½ tsp sambhar masala. Saute on low flame.

16. Pour 1 cup of water and cook on low flame.

17. Now toss steamed suji balls and mix gently coating spices uniformly.

18. Also, add 2 tsp lemon juice and give it a good mix.

19. Finally, enjoy suji balls with spicy chutney.
